Brugmansias (Angels Trumpets) came originally from South America - a shrubby tree like plant able to reach a height of up to 30ft in the wild with a tan coloured slightly rough bark.leaves The leaves are covered with fine hairs with a coarely toothed edge and are usually about 10-30 cm long and 4-18 cm broad. The name Angel''s Trumpet relates to the big and very striking, pendulous white, pink, orange,yellow or red trumpet-shaped flowers which can be up to 20 inches long and 10�35 cm across at the wide end. In early evening their attractive scent with light, lemony overtones is very noticeable. Brugmansia are large shrubs which will take some light frosts (-5C) and if protected with straw or similar material can tolerate even lower temperatures if cut back to a foot or so and permitted to regrow after wintertime has passed. Alternatively they can be kept in a cold greenhouse to over winter. Not leaving the plants to get pot bound will encourage a more shrubby habit and the plant will flower earlier and more abundantly.

All parts of the Brugmansia plant contain dangerous levels of poison and could be fatal if consumed by humans or animals, including livestock and pets.
